Math addition is the application of established properties, rules and methods to sum numeric quantities. Simple addition only considers positive whole numbers.

Properties of Addition

  1. Uses math integers,
  2. Can include fractions or decimal values,
  3. The “+” addition sign between quantities summed,
  4. Use “=” (equal to) math sign to separate quantities summed  from their sum, and
  5. Sums (answers) can be zero or positive values.

Single Digit Addition

By adding two single digit numbers the largest value that can be obtained is 18,  the sum of 9 and 9.

Double Digit Addition

2 digit addition when one or more numbers is 2 digits.
